Our mouth is one of our body’s most important warning systems for diseases. Signs of unusual pain, bleeding, or abnormal symptoms appearing in your mouth should not be ignored. These could be warning signs of a serious health condition.
At Sandhills Oral & Facial Surgery, we are dedicated to your oral health and overall wellbeing. Our team specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all diseases and conditions throughout the mouth and facial regions. We are here to find the answers and provide the best treatment solutions for you.
Oral Health and Overall Health
It is very important to maintain healthy habits for your oral hygiene and to keep up with regular dental check-ups and cleanings. During routine dental checkups, your general dentist will look for abnormal lesions that may be oral cancer or another serious health condition. If a sign is detected, your dentist will refer you to Dr. Weber or another Oral Surgeon for identification and treatment.
Through our careful examination process, we review extensive medical history and often take a biopsy of the concerning area. Once we have determined the cause and condition, Dr. Weber creates a comprehensive treatment plan for you. He will address any questions or concerns and discuss the best course of treatment for you.
Warning Signs
Our mouth’s warning signs show us a pathological change has occurred. They can be in form of any pain, bleeding, discoloration or presence of abnormal growth. Some pathological changes are unproblematic, while others indicate a life-threatening condition that could require immediate treatment - the most serious of these is oral cancer.
Common Signs of Oral Cancer
- Red or white patches in the mouth
- A sore that fails to heal and bleeds easily
- Abnormal growth, lump or thickening on the skin lining inside of the mouth
- Chronic sore throat or hoarseness in voice
- Difficulty in chewing and/or swallowing
